Mass Effect Headcanon - Female Drell

Description

Female drell are built similarly to males, only smaller and less muscular. They are still quick and can be formidable, but overall they are shorter and more lithe. They also have a hood that they can spread, much like a cobra, to appear more threatening. This is an evolutionary trait left over from early tribal days, when males would range throughout their territory in search of food, water, or shelter supplies while the females remained in a central location to defend the home ground and their young.

In ancient drell cultures, this resulted in particularly fierce female drell being deified as warrior goddesses and goddesses of fertility and protection. Their homebound lifestyle did them no injustice: they were considered every bit as capable as males, and infertile females or those disinterested in bearing children altogether would often join males in hunts. Some mothers whose mates had suffered injuries rendering them unfit for travel would take the male’s place in the hunting party, leaving the children and home with him.

In some ways, the culture was almost matriarchal, with the females making most of hte decisions relating to tribe security and rationing in times of limited supplies. They would also officiate joining of mates, and many became the equivalent of medicine women or shamans.

In the more modern culture, female drell share many of the same cultural advantages as males. They tend toward being strong-willed and outspoken, and share the same jobs and rights. Many will tattoo the backs of their hoods (see Cerdra above).

Also, like males, female drell secrete a toxin through their skin, but it is significantly more potent than their male counterparts (so instead of experiencing hallucinations from oral contact with their skin, more like… experiencing a trip to the hospital).

Note that any of this could be debunked by Word of God at any time, but I just wanted to post some female drell theory stuff. Doodle is of my female drell oc, Cerdra Pheir.

Mass Effect is (c) EA/Bioware.
